1. The International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION) successfully participated in the Nigerian Navy’s 70th Anniversary Celebration and the 6th Sea Power for Africa Symposium – International Fleet Review 2026 Exhibition, held from 1–3 June 2026 in Lagos. The landmark event brought together senior military officers, maritime experts, government officials, international delegates, industry leaders, and other key stakeholders from within and outside Nigeria. It provided an important platform for maritime institutions to showcase their contributions to maritime education, research, innovation, and national development.

Throughout the three-day exhibition, the IMION Exhibition Stand attracted significant attention and recorded impressive patronage from distinguished visitors and maritime professionals who expressed strong interest in the Institute’s mandate, programmes and strategic initiatives. A major highlight of the exhibition was the visit by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Admiralty Medal) and his wife and National President, Naval Officer’s wives Association (NOWA) Mrs Hajia Aisha Idi Abbas, to the IMION stand. Other notable dignitaries present were Foreign Rear Admirals, Commanders and senior officers of the Armed forces from Namibia, Gambia and south Africa. The visit underscored the growing recognition of IMION as a leading institution dedicated to advancing maritime education, policy research and capacity development.
3. The Institute also welcomed several other distinguished guests, including senior officers of the Nigerian Navy, foreign naval commanders, international military delegates, representatives of maritime organisations and institutions, government agencies, industry stakeholders and local and international exhibitors. Their engagement with IMION provided valuable opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange and the exploration of future partnerships aimed at strengthening the maritime sector.
4. IMION’s participation in the exhibition further reinforced its commitment to promoting maritime excellence through research, education, professional development and strategic collaboration. It further highlighted the Institute’s growing role in supporting evidence-based policy formulation, fostering innovation and contributing to the sustainable development of Nigeria’s maritime industry. Participation in the NN@70 Exhibition also enhanced IMION’s visibility and created more awareness about the institute among the International delegates and personalities in a multinational setting.
