Rear Admiral Akinga Nasu Ayafa (Rtd.) is a highly experienced and well-qualified member of the Institute’s Governing Board. Over his distinguished naval career, he held several key command and staff appointments that underscore his operational expertise and strategic leadership.
He served as Navigating Officer on notable naval vessels such as NNS ARADU and NNS EKUN, and later became Commanding Officer, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny. He also excelled in critical headquarters roles, including Director of Operations and Deputy Director across various departments at the Naval Headquarters, demonstrating exceptional strategic insight and administrative capability.
Rear Admiral Ayafa completed the Officers Specialist Long Course (Navigation) in India and served as the pioneer Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Doctrine Command, solidifying his influence in shaping naval standards and operational doctrine. He is also a licensed Air Traffic Controller and an active member of several esteemed professional bodies.
His service is decorated with numerous honours, including the Grand Service Star, alongside multiple fellowships awarded in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Nigerian Navy and national security.
