Rear Admiral Murtala Mormoni Bashir (Rtd) possesses a robust and diversified professional portfolio that makes him an exemplary choice for the Governing Board. His distinguished military career includes significant leadership appointments, notably as Commandant of both the Naval War College and the National Defence College, Nigeria. With specialized training in Above Water Warfare and extensive operational experience onboard various naval platforms, he brings a wealth of strategic and operational expertise to the Institute.
In addition to his military command roles, Rear Admiral Bashir has built an impressive academic and research-oriented career. He has held teaching positions at the University of Jos and Bingham University, where he also served in key leadership roles such as Head of the Department of Political Science and Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies. As Provost of the Centre for Strategic Research and Training at the National Defence College, he oversaw modules on International Relations and Peace Support Operations, further demonstrating his depth of knowledge in maritime security, defense policy, and regional strategic studies.
His active involvement in international research networks and participation in high-level security and defence forums—including the OAU Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit—underscore his capacity to contribute meaningfully to national, regional, and global security dialogues.
