Professor Freedom Chukwudi Onuoha

Professor Freedom Chukwudi Onuoha’s extensive background in political science and maritime security makes him an excellent fit for the strategic leadership of the Institute. He has over 17 years of academic experience, specializing in areas critical to maritime governance—particularly security, terrorism, and organized crime.
His leadership roles at the National Defence College and his involvement in various international maritime security initiatives, including the ECOWAS Pilot Zone E in Togo and the Maritime Security Study Group, highlight his capacity to contribute meaningfully to maritime policy development.
Additionally, his work with the United Nations Development Programme on piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, along with his extensive publication record, further solidify his expertise in addressing maritime threats and enhancing maritime safety in Nigeria and the wider West African region.
