His military career, which spans over four decades, culminated in his appointment as the 22nd Chief of the Naval Staff of the Nigerian Navy, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership, strategic foresight, and operational excellence.

Vice Admiral Ibas is a recipient of the prestigious national honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR). His extensive military training and numerous strategic appointments underscore his deep expertise in naval and maritime operations.
Following the completion of his military career, he was appointed High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Ghana, a position he held until the conclusion of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
