IMION ORGANISES EXECUTIVE COURSE ON BLUE ECONOMY FOR MEDIA PRACTITIONERS

The International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION) has successfully concluded a one-day Executive Course on the Blue Economy for media practitioners. The Executive Course took place on 30 July, 2025, at the IMION Auditorium in Apapa, Lagos.

In his remarks, the Director General of IMION, Rear Admiral Thaddeus Udofia (rtd), emphasized the importance of translating the key learning outcomes of the Course into practical action. He urged participants to deepen collaborations and remain passionate advocates for a sustainable Blue Economy for the country, other Gulf of Guinea States and the world. He advised the media to continue to build momentum by telling the stories that matter, amplifying maritime voices and strengthening the bridge between maritime policy and public awareness, applying newly acquired insights to produce journalism that is impactful, accurate and insightful.

The Director General also expressed his appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Admiralty Medal, for his visionary leadership in advancing Maritime development in Nigeria and his unwavering support to the Institute, which made the successful conduct of the Executive Course possible.

Presentations were delivered by Rear Admiral Francis Dan Akpan (rtd) and Mrs. Funke Agbor, SAN, a respected legal scholar in the maritime sector. The Course featured interactive and syndicate sessions, allowing participants to share experiences and ask relevant questions.

As part of the programme, participants were taken on a guided tour of the Nigerian Navy Ship UNITY, where participants observed routine naval operations and gained firsthand exposure to life aboard a naval vessel.

The Executive Course attracted participants from the Nigerian Navy and media professionals operating within the maritime sector. The Executive Course aimed to equip journalists with the knowledge and confidence to translate complex maritime issues into responsible, solution-oriented reporting. Ultimately, this initiative seeks to strengthen the link between public awareness, informed policymaking, and sustainable maritime practices.
