IMION TO HOST EXECUTIVE COURSE ON THE BLUE ECONOMY FOR MEDIA PRACTITIONERS

The International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION) a premier research and training institute focused on the Blue Economy is set to host an exclusive Executive Course on the Blue Economy for Media Practitioners. This high-level training initiative is designed to deepen national awareness and promote strategic media engagement in unlocking the vast economic and ecological potential of Nigeria’s maritime domain.

The course will hold on Wednesday, 30 July 2025, at the IMION Auditorium, Harbour Road, Apapa, and is specifically tailored for select media professionals. Its core objective is to equip participants with critical knowledge, practical tools, and strategic insights to enhance advocacy, influence policy engagement, and improve the quality of reporting on Blue Economy issues.

This initiative highlights the pivotal role of the media in shaping public discourse, supporting effective maritime governance, and advancing sustainable development within the Blue Economy ecosystem. Participants will benefit from interactive, high-impact sessions led by distinguished subject-matter experts with both international and national experience.

According to the Director General of IMION, Rear Admiral (Dr) TC Udofia (Rtd), the course is a deliberate effort to foster collaboration between media professionals and maritime stakeholders. The goal is to strengthen public awareness, support evidence-based policymaking, and build institutional capacity for the sustainable exploration and management of Nigeria’s ocean resources.

IMION’s recognition of the media as essential partners in advancing Nigeria’s ocean economy underscores the need for this bespoke training. It is designed for frontline practitioners who play a critical role in reporting maritime developments and shaping narratives that impact ocean governance and national development.

As Nigeria continues to explore the economic opportunities embedded within its coastal and marine environments, this course reflects a growing national commitment to inclusive, knowledge-driven, and sustainability-focused development with the media at the heart of the transformation
